This work is part of my "Tchotchke series."These adorable salt and pepper shakers were found at a resale shop and perfect fodder for a staged still life. I arranged them on a tiled kitchen counter where the composition breathes life as a pair in their typical environment. Each has its coloring and holds a fish. With whimsical smiles, cats holding fish, one by the tail and one by the head, are delightful opposites. I extended the tile background painted on all sides of the canvas, giving the whole canvas the feel of one thick tile piece.

A collectible, a "tchotchke" no longer collecting dust on a shelf, now "lives" as a work of art that brings joy and contemplation to the viewer.
