Eyes to the Soul Series

This assemblage of eight oil paintings, each featuring a close-up of a wildlife eye, began in 2011 with The Sad Zebra, an original oil inspired by seeing a zebra at the zoo huddled alone in the shade, half asleep, relaxing in relief from the summer sun. After painting the zebra, I envisioned painting different eyes on the same-sized canvases as a dynamic “Eye” assemblage. I spent quite a bit of time at zoos, sketching and taking reference photography. The last painting, “Tiger Eye”, was completed in September 2019. These animal eyes traveled with my son and me through three moves and one California firestorm evacuation. The complete assemblage debuted at an exhibition at MRG Fine Art Gallery in Sherman Oaks, California.
