There are few scenes as stunning as a Colorado aspen forest. The reference photos for this painting were taken when traveling from Denver to Aspen on Independence Pass. The fascinating, unique dark markings on the towering white trunk are called Aspen eyes, where side branches used to be, created by this self-pruning tree. This composition captures the view of standing within an Aspen habitat.
