I recently bought live ladybugs for my garden to use as references for this series. The crawlers live dormant in containers where the color of their bodies is a dull light brown. After I released them in the garden early in the morning, they were bright orange-red by the afternoon and relishing in their new habitat.

This painting captures a "Lady" among the crosshatched variety of leaves over the unknown depth below.

This work is a play between this whimsical insect's beauty and dotted daintiness and the hard-lined abstraction of the magnified grounds on which it travels.
